Becoming a Professional Boxer
Marcus Oliveira started his professional boxing journey in April 2006. His very first fight was a big success, as he won by knockout against Daniel Russell. This was just the beginning of a strong start!
He won his first six fights by knockout. Five of these wins happened in the very first round, showing how powerful his punches were. In February 2007, Mike Word was the first boxer to last the entire fight against Oliveira, which means Marcus won by decision instead of knockout.
Facing Tougher Opponents
In June 2007, Marcus faced an opponent named Buck Smith who had a lot of experience. Marcus won this fight by TKO (Technical Knockout) in the second round. This was an important win because it showed he could beat more experienced fighters.
His first fight that wasn't a clear win was in February 2008. He had a "split draw" with Nick Cook. This means the judges couldn't agree on a winner, so the fight ended in a tie. This match was for a special title called the USBC light heavyweight title.
Comeback Wins
Marcus showed his fighting spirit in a dramatic match against Phil Williams. Williams was undefeated, having won all 8 of his fights by knockout. In their fight, Marcus was knocked down twice, but he didn't give up! He fought back strongly and managed to knock Williams out in the seventh round. This was a huge victory for Marcus.
In January 2009, Marcus won another important fight against a veteran boxer named Rayco Saunders. He won by "majority decision," which means most of the judges thought he won. Later that year, on June 5, 2009, he defeated Otis Griffin with a knockout in the second round. This fight took place at the Grand Casino Hinckley in Minnesota.
