Margaret Beames is a well-known author from New Zealand. She writes many award-winning books for children. She was born on October 18, 1935. Her first book, The Greenstone Summer, was published in 1977. Since then, she has written more than 35 books! She lives in Feilding, New Zealand.

Awards and Recognition

Margaret Beames has won many awards for her books. Her book Oliver in the Garden won two big awards in 2001. It won the Picture Book category and the Children's Choice Award at the New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults. This means kids loved it the most!

Oliver in the Garden was also listed on the Storylines Notable Books List in 2000. This list highlights great books for children. It was also included in the White Ravens list, which is put together by the International Youth Library. This list features special children's books from all over the world.

Margaret Beames was born in Oxford, England. She lived in Kenya for two years before moving to New Zealand in 1974. She worked as a teacher for more than 30 years. She is married and has two children and six grandchildren.
