Margaret Lucas (engineer) facts for kids
Margaret Lucas is a Scottish mechanical engineer. She is an expert in studying how things vibrate and how powerful sound waves, called ultrasound, can be used in many ways.
For example, she has worked on using ultrasound to break and collect rocks in space exploration. She also uses it for exploring for oil and gas deep under the sea. Another important use is in special cutting tools for robot-assisted surgery.
Margaret Lucas is a professor at the University of Glasgow. She teaches about ultrasound and leads a big part of the engineering school there.
Becoming an Engineer
Margaret Lucas studied at the University of Aberdeen first. Then, she went to Loughborough University to get her PhD in mechanical engineering. A PhD is a very high degree that shows you are an expert in your field.
After finishing her studies, she worked as a lecturer at Loughborough University starting in 1990. A lecturer is like a teacher at a university. In 1996, she moved to the University of Glasgow. She became a full professor there in 2006.
