About Margaret Roc
Her Early Life and Education
Margaret Roc was born in Stirling, Scotland, on July 14, 1945. She was the youngest of three children. In 1953, when she was eight years old, her family moved to Australia.
Margaret studied at the University of Sydney. She graduated in 1969 with a focus on Psychology and Government. She then earned her teaching qualification in 1970. Later, she also became a special needs teacher. She continued her studies, earning a Masters of Arts in Education and a Masters of Arts in Creative Writing.
Writing for Kids
Margaret Roc has worked as a teacher and a teacher-librarian in schools across Sydney. She still teaches today!
She often works with another author and editor, Kathleen Hawke. Together, they have written popular books. Two of their books are Australia's Critically Endangered Animals and Australia's Deadly and Dangerous Animals and Plants. These books are part of the Premier's Reading Challenge. This challenge helps encourage children to read more.
Margaret Roc is a member of important groups for writers. These include The Australian Society of Authors and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
Her Family
Margaret Roc married her husband, John, in 1965. They have two children. Her son is James Roc, and her daughter is the actress Tasneem Roc.
