Margaret comes from a very well-known family of artists. Many of her relatives are also famous Aboriginal artists. For example, Emily Kame Kngwarreye was her aunt. Other famous artists in her family include Gloria Petyarre, Kathleen Petyarre, Anna Petyarre, and Ada Bird Petyarre.
Margaret Scobie went to school at Ross Park Primary School in Alice Springs. She learned to paint during special "Awelye" ceremonies. She has been painting for most of her life.
