Margaret Spencer (1472–1536) was an important woman in English history. She was also known as Eleanor Spencer. Margaret was the daughter of Sir Robert Spencer, who lived in Spencer Combe, Devon. Her mother was Lady Eleanor Beaufort. Eleanor's father was Edmund Beaufort, 2nd Duke of Somerset. This made Margaret part of a very well-known noble family.
Margaret Spencer's Family Life
In 1490, Margaret Spencer married Sir Thomas Carey (1455-1500). He was from Chilton Foliat in Wiltshire. Sir Thomas was the second son of Sir William Cary. Together, Margaret and Thomas had eight children.

- Sir John Carey (1491–1552): He married Joyce Denny.
- Anne Carey (1493–1550)
- William Carey (1500–1528): He worked for King Henry VIII of England. William was a Gentleman of the Privy Chamber. He also served as an Esquire of the Body to the King. William married Mary Boleyn. Mary Boleyn was the sister of Anne Boleyn, who later became Queen.
- Margaret Carey (1496–1560)
- Eleanor Carey (died after 1528): She became a nun at Wilton Abbey.
- Another daughter Carey: She also became a nun at Wilton Abbey.
- Edward Carey (after 1500–1560)
- Mary Carey (1501–1560): She married John Delaval, who was the Sheriff of Northumberland.
