Margarete Müller facts for kids
Margarete Müller (born February 18, 1931 – died October 12, 2024) was an important politician in East Germany. She was a member of the State Council of East Germany, which was like the main governing body. From 1963 to 1989, she was also part of the Central Committee of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED), the leading political party. She was a candidate member of the SED's top group, called the politburo, until the system changed.

Margarete Müller's Life
Early Life and Start in Politics
Margarete Müller was born in a town called Neustadt in Upper Silesia. Her family worked hard. After the Second World War, she had to move to Mecklenburg. There, she became a tractor driver.
In 1951, Margarete Müller joined the SED political party. She then studied agricultural science in Demmin and at the University of Leningrad. She finished her studies in 1958. After that, she worked on a large collective farm, known as an LPG, near Galenbeck.
Important Roles in Government
In January 1963, Margarete Müller became a member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the SED. She also became a candidate (a non-voting member) of the politburo, which was a very powerful group. At the same time, she was elected to the Volkskammer, which was East Germany's parliament.
Later, in 1971, she was chosen to be part of the State Council. This council was like the collective head of state for East Germany. In this role, she was in charge of things like farming, forests, and making sure there was enough food. She led special groups for plant production (from 1972 to 1976) and for agricultural industries (in 1976).
Later Years
In 1989, during the Peaceful Revolution, Margarete Müller and the entire politburo resigned. This was a time of big changes in East Germany. She also left the State Council and the Volkskammer in January 1990. She was later removed from the SED-PDS party.
Margarete Müller passed away on October 12, 2024, when she was 93 years old.
