Margot Austin (born September 18, 1907 – died June 25, 1990) was a talented American artist who created many wonderful books for children. She was known for both writing and drawing the stories.
Margot Austin's Life and Work
Margot Austin was born in Portland, Oregon, a city in the United States. She loved art from a young age. To learn more about drawing and painting, she went to the National Academy of Design in New York City. This is a famous art school where many artists have studied.
After her studies, Margot Austin became a successful illustrator. She drew pictures for many different children's books. She also shared her art in popular magazines like Jack and Jill Magazine.
Famous Church Animal Stories
Margot Austin is especially famous for a series of books about small animals. These animals lived in the church of a character named Parson Pease-Porridge. The first book in this popular series was Peter Churchmouse, published in 1941 by E. P. Dutton.
Another well-loved book from this series was Gabriel Churchkitten. This story was so popular that it was even made into an animated film short in 1944!
Margot Austin passed away in 1990 at the age of 81. She died at her home in New Fairfield, Connecticut, leaving behind a legacy of beloved children's books.
