Maria Anna Stubenberg (born August 9, 1821 – died December 1, 1912) was a talented German composer. She was known for using Hungarian and Romani (often called "gypsy") folk tunes in her music. Her compositions included pieces for voice, piano, and the zither.

Maria Anna was born in Graz, Austria. Her full birth name was Maria Anna Herrin und Gräfin von Buttlar-Stubenberg. Her parents were Gustav Adolf Josef Christian Felix Herr und Graf von Stubenberg and Maria Franciszka Freiin Staudach.

She married twice during her life. Her first marriage was to Johann Remekhazy von Gurahoncz on February 15, 1840. Later, she married Friedrich Graf von Zichy on February 22, 1848. After her marriages, she was also known as Remekhazy von Gurahoncz and von Zichy.

Her Musical Works

Maria Anna Stubenberg spent part of her childhood in Hungary. This experience greatly influenced her music. She often included Hungarian and Romani folk melodies in her compositions.

She wrote music for different instruments. These included pieces for singers, the piano, and the zither. A zither is a stringed instrument that is played by plucking the strings.

Stubenberg composed many works, reaching at least "opus 90." An "opus" number is how composers organize their pieces. She used words from folk songs and famous writers for her music. Some of these writers included Heinrich Heine and Nikolaus Lenau. Her music was published by companies like Josef Eberle.
