Maria Hernandez Park is a fun and important park in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York City. It's a public park, which means it's owned by the city and open for everyone to enjoy! The park is located between Knickerbocker Avenue and Irving Avenue, and Starr Street and Suydam Street. It's about 6.87 acres big, which is like having over six football fields of green space! You can easily get there by subway, as it's close to the Jefferson Street station.

The park is designed for everyone to use. It has four entrances that are easy to get into, even if you use a wheelchair. You'll find a newly updated basketball court where you can shoot hoops and a handball court for another fun sport. There's also fitness equipment if you want to exercise, and spray showers to cool off on hot days. Plenty of benches are available for relaxing. Plus, there's a brand new stage where shows and events can happen! The playground was also rebuilt with cool new equipment, thanks to money from the mayor and the city council.

Park Achievements and Awards

Maria Hernandez Park has received special recognition for being a great place. In December 2006, the park was chosen as the city's "Park of the Month." This award means it was recognized for being a well-maintained and popular spot for the community.

As part of this honor, the city and local community worked together to make the park even better. They added a new basketball court and strong fences around it. They also built a stage for performances and painted the park benches to make them look fresh and inviting. In January 2007, the park received another award called the Lily Bartle Park of the Month award, showing its continued excellence.
