Maria Leonidovna Rudnitskaya (born June 17, 1916 – died January 1, 1983) was a talented Russian artist. She was a painter, graphic artist, and art teacher. Maria lived and worked in Leningrad, a major city in Russia. She was also part of the Leningrad Union of Artists. Many people saw her as an important artist from the Leningrad school of painting. This art school was known for its realistic style.

Biography

Early Life and Education

Maria Leonidovna Rudnitskaya was born on June 17, 1916. Her birthplace was Ekaterinoslav, a city in Ukraine. Her father was a railway engineer. From 1916 to 1927, Maria and her family lived in Siberia. They were there because of the building of the Trans-Siberian Railway.

In 1932, Maria finished seven years of school. She then moved to Leningrad. In 1935, she started studying at the Tavricheskaya Art School. There, she learned from famous teachers like A. Gromov and V. Oreshnikov.

Becoming an Artist

Maria Rudnitskaya graduated from Tavricheskaya Art School in 1939. That same year, she joined the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. She studied painting with well-known artists such as Semion Abugov and Igor Grabar.

Her studies were interrupted by World War II. After the war, in 1949, Maria finally graduated. Her final project was a painting called "Motherhood." She studied in the studio of Victor Oreshnikov.

Artistic Career and Teaching

From 1949 onwards, Maria Rudnitskaya showed her art in many exhibitions. She painted different kinds of art. These included portraits of people, beautiful landscapes, and still lifes. She also created genre paintings, which show scenes from everyday life.

Maria loved painting outdoors, which is called "plein air" painting. She was especially good at painting portraits of children. Her portraits were known for being very precise. They also had delicate colors and captured the outdoor light well.

After returning to Leningrad, Maria became an art teacher. She first taught at the Secondary Art School. Later, she taught at the Higher School of Industrial Art.

Maria Rudnitskaya became a member of the Leningrad Union of Artists in 1949. This was an important group for artists in the city.

Later Life and Legacy

Maria Leonidovna Rudnitskaya passed away on January 1, 1983. She was 66 years old. Her paintings are now in museums and private collections. You can find her art in countries like England, France, Italy, the U.S., and Russia.
