Mariah's Early Life and Golf Journey
Mariah Stackhouse grew up with parents who supported her love for golf. Her dad, Ken Stackhouse, used to work at a company that designs buildings. Her mom, Sharon Stackhouse, was a manager at a hospital.
Starting Young
Mariah started playing golf at a very young age. When she was only two years old, her dad made her a special set of golf clubs by cutting down his own. Mariah remembers, "I began to practice alongside him, and he never stopped taking me." She added, "I guess I developed a liking for the game, I kept practicing, and here I am now." She played in her very first tournament when she was six and even tied for first place! Mariah went to North Clayton High School in Riverdale, Georgia, where her classmates chose her as class president two years in a row.
College Golf Star
In 2013, during her first year at Stanford, Mariah played an amazing round of golf. She scored a 61 at the Peg Barnard Invitational Tournament. This score set a new record for college golf (NCAA). Her score of 61 included a fantastic start, where she was nine strokes under par on the first nine holes. At the 2015 NCAA Championship, Mariah finished sixth in the individual player competition. She also helped her team win the overall championship title.
