Mariana Lake is a small, quiet place in northern Alberta, Canada. It is not a big city with its own local government. Instead, it is part of a larger area called the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. You can find Mariana Lake along Highway 63, about 101 kilometers (63 miles) southwest of Fort McMurray.

A Former Important Stop

For many years, Mariana Lake was home to the Mariana Lakes Country Store. This store was very important for travelers. It was the only place to get fuel, food, and use a washroom between Wandering River and Fort McMurray along Highway 63.

In September 2008, the government of Alberta announced a plan. They decided to buy the land where the store was located. This was to make room for a big project: adding more lanes to Highway 63. This process is called "twinning" the highway. The store closed its doors for the last time on September 30, 2008.

What People Do There

Even though the store is gone, some activities still happen around Mariana Lake. People in the area are involved in Farming. There is also some oil production. This means that companies use special machines called oil rigs to find and bring up oil from underground.
