Mariano Bayón Álvarez (born September 25, 1942) is a famous architect from Spain. He is known for designing many interesting buildings, like the Red Eléctrica de España building in Seville and the Price Circus in Madrid.

Life and Career of Mariano Bayón

Mariano Bayón was born in Madrid, Spain. He studied architecture at the Superior Technical School of Architecture of Madrid (ETSAM) and finished his studies in 1968.

He has designed many important buildings. Some of his most well-known works include:

  • The Red Eléctrica de España building in Seville (built in 1992). This building was described as looking like a sheet of white marble, thin and bright like a light bulb at night, but strong and heavy during the day.
  • The Public Library in Villaverde, Madrid (built in 1996).
  • An addition to the old Poblet Monastery in Tarragona (finished in 2011). This monastery is very old, from the 12th century!

More recently, Mariano Bayón designed an office building for Spain's General Management of Assets in Madrid (2015). He also designed the new Spanish Civil Guard Officers Academy in Aranjuez (2016).

From 1975 to 2008, Bayón was a professor at Madrid's School of Architecture. He taught students how to design buildings. He has also written many articles about modern architecture and its history. He has helped organize and present several exhibitions about architecture from the 20th century.
