Mariano Rajoy Sobredo (born August 28, 1921 – died November 1, 2018) was an important Spanish legal expert and judge. He was known for being the president of the provincial court in Pontevedra, Spain. He was also the father of Mariano Rajoy, who later became the Prime Minister of Spain.

Early Life and Family
Mariano Rajoy Sobredo was born in Santiago de Compostela, a city in Spain. His father, Enrique Rajoy, was a respected academic from Galicia, a region in Spain. Enrique Rajoy helped write an important document called the Galician Statute of Autonomy of 1936. This document helped define how Galicia would govern itself.
A Career in Law
Mariano Rajoy Sobredo worked hard to become a judge. After passing special exams, he started his career in 1948 as a judge in Orders, La Coruña. He then moved to different towns, serving as a judge in Lalín, Pontevedra (from 1949 to 1953), Piedrahita, Avila (from 1953 to 1955), and Carballiño, Orense (from 1955 to 1958).
In 1958, he was promoted to a higher position called magistrate. He served as a judge in Oviedo until 1960, and then moved to León. He stayed in León for ten years, where he became well-known for how carefully and perfectly he handled many legal cases. His excellent work earned him a special award called the Order of St. Raymond of Peñafort.
