Marie Christine de Rouvroy (born May 7, 1728 – died July 4, 1774) was an important French noblewoman. She later became part of the House of Grimaldi family when she got married. Her grandfather was a very famous writer named the duc de Saint-Simon. Marie Christine was often known as the Countess of Valentinois. People also called her Princess Charles Maurice of Monaco. She worked as a lady-in-waiting for three of the daughters of Louis XV of France, who was the King of France. She also served the Countess of Provence.
Her Early Life and Marriage
Marie Christine's parents were Jacques Louis de Rouvroy, Duke of Ruffec, and Catherine Charlotte Thérèse de Gramont. Before she got married, people knew her as Mademoiselle de Ruffec. This was a common way to address young, unmarried noblewomen.
On December 10, 1749, she formally married Prince Charles Maurice Grimaldi of Monaco. The wedding happened in a private chapel in Paris. King Louis XV of France himself gave special permission for them to marry.
The couple stayed together for many years. However, they eventually separated in 1766. Marie Christine and Prince Charles Maurice did not have any children together.
