Meet Marilyn Pappas: A Fiber Artist
Learning and Teaching Art
Marilyn Pappas studied art at two great schools. She went to the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt). She also attended Pennsylvania State University. After her studies, she returned to MassArt. From 1974 to 1994, she taught art there. When she retired, she was honored as a "professor emerita." This means she was a respected professor who retired but kept her title.
Where You Can See Her Art
Marilyn Pappas's artwork is so special that it's in many important museums. You can find her pieces in the Krannert Art Museum. Her art is also at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City. The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston also have her work.
One of her famous pieces is Nike with Broken Wings. This artwork was bought by the Smithsonian American Art Museum. It became part of the Renwick Gallery's 50th Anniversary Campaign. This campaign helped the gallery add important new artworks to its collection. In 2022, the Fuller Craft Museum held a special show of her work. This type of show, called a retrospective, looks back at an artist's entire career.
