Marion Eames (born Gwladys Marion Griffith Eames, 1921–2007) was a famous Welsh writer. She wrote most of her books in the Welsh language. She was also a very good musician.

Early Life and Education

Marion Eames was born on February 5, 1921, in Birkenhead, England. Her parents, William and Gwladys Eames, were Welsh. When Marion was four years old, her family moved to Dolgellau, a town in Wales.

She went to Dr Williams' School in Dolgellau. Marion was very talented in music. She played both the harp and the piano. Later, she studied music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

Career and Family Life

After finishing her studies, Marion worked as a librarian. She worked in Dolgellau and then at Aberystwyth University. In 1955, she started working for the BBC in Cardiff. She became a radio producer and worked there until 1980.

Marion also had an interest in politics. She was a regional organizer for Plaid Cymru, a political party in Wales. In 1955, she married Griffith Williams, a journalist. They lived in London for a short time before moving back to Cardiff.

Writing Career and Famous Books

Marion Eames was a very important writer. She helped write early scripts for Pobol Y Cwm. This is a very popular Welsh TV show that is still on today.

Her most famous book is a historical novel called Y Stafell Ddirgel. This means The Secret Room. It was published in 1969. The book was so popular that it was translated into English in 1975. Later, the BBC made it into a TV series.

Marion also wrote other books for adults. One of them was Y Rhandir Mwyn, which was a sequel to Y Stafell Ddirgel. She also wrote books especially for children. These include Sionyn a Siarli (1978), Huw a'r Adar Aur (1987), and Y Tir Tywyll (1990).

In 1997, she wrote a book called A Private Language. This book helped English-speaking readers learn about Welsh literature. Marion Eames received an honorary degree from the University of Wales for her contributions. She passed away on April 3, 2007.
