About Mariví Bilbao
Mariví Bilbao was born in Bilbao, Spain, in 1930. She started acting in theater plays very early on. She was part of a group called Hispanic Culture of Bilbao and even helped start another group called Akelarre. At first, she didn't use her real name for acting. She used "Angela Valverde" instead because her father didn't want her name in the newspaper for acting.
Her Acting Journey
Mariví started her film career in short movies like The Interrogation of F. Bardají and Unusual Beach in the 1960s. Later, she appeared in other films such as Irrintzi (1978) and Agur (1979).
In 1981, she got a big role in the movie Seven Streets. This was her first part in a full-length film. From then on, she became a very reliable and effective supporting actress, especially in the Euskadi region of Spain.
Mariví received awards for her acting career. The Basque Actors Association gave her the El Abrazo award in 1996, and the newspaper El Mundo gave her the Séller Award in 1997.
She became very popular for her role in the hit TV series Aquí no hay quien viva on Antena 3. She worked on this show for more than three years. In 2007, the same team created a new show called La que se avecina, where she played a different character.
Mariví also worked on many shows for ETB, which is the Basque regional television. In 2006, people voted for her to be the official announcer for the Big Week of Bilbao holidays.
In March 2007, she even went to the 79th Oscar awards! This was because a short film she starred in, called Éramos pocos (One Too Many), was nominated for Best Live Action Short Film. She had also won awards for best actress at film festivals for other short films she made.
In 2008, she received the City of Huesca International Award at the Film Festival of Huesca, celebrating her long acting career. In 2013, she started to retire from television, only recording short announcements.
Her Life Outside Acting
Mariví Bilbao was also involved in helping others. She regularly supported the "Mójate por la esclerosis múltiple" campaign, which raises money and awareness for people with multiple sclerosis in the Basque Country.
She was married twice. One of her husbands was Javier Urquijo, an artist and art critic. They had a daughter named Elvira, who passed away in 2015.
Mariví Bilbao passed away at her home in Bilbao on April 3, 2013, when she was 83 years old.
