Marjorie Violet G Drawbell (born March 1, 1903, died April 27, 2000) was a talented British artist. She was a sculptor, meaning she made art by shaping materials. Marjorie was famous for designing many things. These designs were later made into pottery and even beautiful jewelry.

Marjorie Drawbell's Artistic Journey

Marjorie Drawbell was born in England. She loved art from a young age. From 1919 to 1921, she studied at the Regent Street Polytechnic in London. This school helped her learn many artistic skills.

Working with Clay and Ceramics

After finishing her studies, Marjorie became an assistant to Charles Vyse. He was another famous artist. Together, they made amazing ceramic figures. These figures were created for a company called Poole Pottery.

Marjorie created many different sculptures. She made figures of both animals and people. Often, she made these special pieces for people who asked her directly. This is called a "private commission." Some of her designs were even turned into silver jewelry by a company called Asprey.

Exhibitions and Books

Marjorie Drawbell was a well-known artist. She often showed her sculptures at the Royal Academy in London. This is a very important art gallery. She displayed eighteen of her works there between 1943 and 1961.

In 1961, Marjorie wrote a book. It was called Making Pottery Figures. This book taught people how to make pottery. It shared her methods and techniques. Marjorie was also a painter. In 1970, she had an exhibition of her paintings at the Zaydler Gallery.

Recognized for Her Talent

Marjorie's artistic skills were highly respected. In 1948, she became an Associate member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors. This is a special group for sculptors. Later, in 1957, she was made a Fellow of that Society. This shows how important her work was.
