Markey Wallace (born November 5, 1893 – died May 20, 1984), often called Mark Wallace, was an important person in New Zealand. He was a cheesemaker, a farmer, and a leader in his community. He also worked in local politics. He was born in Waiho, a place in South Westland, New Zealand.

Mark Wallace was a strong community leader. He served as the chairman of the Westland County Council for 13 years. A county council is a group of people who help manage local areas. They make decisions about things like roads and services. Being chairman meant he led this important group.

In 1954, Mark Wallace decided to run for a bigger political job. He ran as an independent candidate in the Westland election. This means he did not belong to a specific political party. However, he was not elected. The person who won was Jim Kent from the Labour Party.

Awards and Recognition

Mark Wallace received several special awards for his hard work. In 1953, he was given the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal. This medal honored people who were important during Queen Elizabeth II's coronation year.

In 1965, he was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire. This is a special honor given by the Queen. He received it for his great service to local government and farming.

Later, in 1977, he received an even higher honor. He was promoted to Commander of the Order of the British Empire. This was given during the Queen's Silver Jubilee and Birthday Honours. It showed how much his contributions to the community were valued.
