History

The first store in Marksboro was owned by William Shafer. An early school, called an academy, was also built here. It didn't work out as a school, so it became a hotel around 1810. The Marksboro Presbyterian Church was started in 1814.

By 1882, the community had grown to 175 people. Marksboro had its own post office, the grist mill, and a lumber mill. It was a busy local trading spot.
