Marooma is a small place, also known as a "locality," located in the far western part of New South Wales, Australia. It's found about 20 kilometers (or 12 miles) south-east of a town called Bourke. Even though it's a quiet spot now, Marooma once had an important railway station that connected it to other places.

Marooma: A Glimpse into its Past

Marooma is a "locality," which is a type of place name used in Australia. It's like a small area or district that might not have a big town or city in it. This particular locality is in the very west of New South Wales, a large state in Australia.

The Railway Station's Journey

A railway station was built in Marooma in 1891. It was part of the Main West line, which was a very important railway track in New South Wales. This line helped people travel and moved goods across the state. The station in Marooma served the area for many years, helping local communities connect with bigger towns.

A Station with Many Names

When the railway station first opened in 1891, it was called Goondabooka. But names can change over time! Just one year later, in 1892, its name was updated to Gundabooka. Then, in 1900, it was changed one last time to Marooma, the name we know today. The station continued to operate until 1957, when it finally closed down. Even though the station is no longer there, its history is still a part of Marooma's story.
