Marquin Chandler's Early Life and College Basketball
Marquin Chandler grew up in Berkeley, California. He was the oldest of three kids. He went to Newark Memorial High School in Newark, California. In his last year, his team, the Newark Memorial Cougars, won a big championship! This was the California Interscholastic Foundation Division II championship in 2000.
Playing for George Washington University
From 2000 to 2002, Chandler attended George Washington University. He played for the Colonials men's basketball team. As a freshman, he played in 25 games. He scored about 1.9 points and got 1.2 rebounds per game.
The next season, Chandler played more. He averaged 6.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. He scored ten or more points in two games. The Colonials finished the 2000–01 season with 14 wins and 18 losses. The next season, they had 12 wins and 16 losses.
Playing for San Jose State University
In 2002, Chandler moved to San Jose State University. From 2003 to 2005, he played for the San Jose State Spartans men's basketball team. He studied administration of justice there.
During the 2003–04 season, Chandler averaged 9.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. He was very good at shooting, making 53.5% of his shots. In his senior year (2004–05), Chandler played about 35 minutes per game. He averaged 19.6 points and 8.6 rebounds. He made 47.1% of his shots. For both seasons, San Jose State had a record of 6 wins and 23 losses. In 2005, Chandler was chosen for the second-team All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
Marquin Chandler's Professional Basketball Career
After college, Marquin Chandler tried out for the Sacramento Kings in the NBA Summer League. In September 2005, he signed with the Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs team in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). His team made it to the finals of the 2005–06 PBA Fiesta Conference, finishing as runners-up.
Playing in Asia
In 2007, Chandler signed with Anyang KGC in the Korean Basketball League (KBL). In a game against the Alaska Aces from the Philippines, Anyang won 102–84. Chandler was the top scorer with 34 points!
From 2008 to 2009, Chandler played 54 games for the KBL team Wonju Dongbu Promy. He averaged 16.2 points per game. In 2010, Chandler joined another KBL team, the Seoul SK Knights.
For the 2013–2014 season, he returned to the KBL to play for Anyang KGC again. In 22 games, he averaged 9.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.
Playing in Other Countries
On February 4, 2011, Chandler scored 15 points for his team Al-Ahli in Bahrain. They lost to Al-Manama in Game 1 of the Bahrain Cup Finals.
On March 14, 2011, Chandler signed with S.L. Benfica in Portugal. Benfica played in the Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol (LPB). Benfica lost the LPB championship in 7 games to FC Porto. In the final game, Chandler scored 16 points. Benfica released Chandler at the end of that season.
On September 16, 2012, Chandler signed with the Japanese team Chiba Jets. In March 2014, Chandler also played one preseason game for Caciques de Humacao in Puerto Rico. In 2022, he played for Correcaminos UAT Victoria in Mexico.
