About the Museum Building
The museum is in a busy part of Córdoba. It looks just like buildings from the old colonial times. Back then, this house was used for both living and business. It is the only house from that time period still standing in modern Córdoba.
Because of its age and the cool things inside, it's a very important place. It has been declared a national and provincial historical museum.
Building Materials and Style
The walls of the house were built using lime. The main structure used adobe, which is a type of sun-dried brick. The roof was made with traditional colonial roof tiles.
Inside the house, the floors are made of special creole tiles. In the courtyards, you will find floors made of boulders. These materials show how buildings were constructed long ago.
History of the Sobremonte House
The house was built by a person named José Rodríguez. Construction started in 1752. It took a long time to finish, about 20 years! The house was finally completed in 1772.
Rafael de Sobremonte's Time
Rafael de Sobremonte lived in this house from 1783 to 1796. During these years, he was the mayor, or administrator, of the city. Back then, Córdoba was known as Córdoba del Tucumán. His time in the house makes it an important part of the city's history.
