Marriott’s Grand Chateau is a special kind of holiday resort located very close to the famous Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It's managed by a company called Marriott Vacation Club. This tall building has 38 floors and is made up of three sections, called wings. There are plans to add a fourth wing in the future! The resort has 643 comfortable suites, and lots of fun things to do like a gym, three places to get drinks, and two swimming pools. A timeshare means that many different people own a small part of the resort, usually for a specific time each year.

Building History

From Nightclub to Resort Land

The land where Marriott's Grand Chateau now stands used to be home to a nightclub. This club first opened in 1978 and was called Jubilation. Later, in 1988, its name changed to the Shark Club. The club closed its doors for good in 1996.

Early Plans for the Site

By 1997, a company called Grand Casinos became interested in the land. They wanted to buy this piece of land, along with some nearby areas. Their big idea was to build a huge casino resort there.

In 2000, another company, Lakes Gaming, announced its own plans. They wanted to build a large hotel that would not have a casino. This project was going to cost around $700 million. They planned to work with a local builder named Brett Torino.

Changes in Ownership

In 2001, Lakes Gaming sold its part of the project to Brett Torino. However, Lakes Gaming still owned the land where the old Shark Club was. They then started talking with another company about building a timeshare resort on that spot.

In February 2002, Diamond Resorts International announced their plans for a project called The Chateau. This company already owned a nearby timeshare complex called Polo Towers. Later, in August 2002, reports said that The Chateau was a joint project between Diamond Resorts and Lakes Entertainment.

Finally, in June 2003, Marriott Vacation Club bought Lakes's share in the project. This included owning the land itself.

Construction and Opening

The construction of the tall resort building happened in different stages. The first section, or wing, of Marriott's Grand Chateau opened its doors to guests in October 2005. Work on the third wing of the resort began in 2012.
