Martí is found on the north-central coast of Cuba. It's known for its interesting natural features.
Waterways and Lagoons
The area includes several lagoons, which are like shallow lakes. These are called Inglés, Bibanasí, and Majagüillar. They are all connected to the Bay of Santa Clara. Several rivers also flow through Martí's land. These include the La Palma, Júcaro, and San Manuel rivers.
Local Divisions
The municipality of Martí is divided into smaller areas called barrios. These include Guamutas, Lacret, La Teja, Martí, Motembo, and Río de la Palma. From 1902 to 1927, the village of Máximo Gómez was also part of Martí. Today, Máximo Gómez is part of Perico.

The town of Martí has a long and interesting past. It was first established almost 200 years ago.
Founding of Hato Nuevo
The town was founded in 1835. Back then, it was known by a different name: Hato Nuevo. It was built on the site of a ranch called Bibanosí.
Renaming the Town
On December 24, 1898, the town's name was officially changed to Martí. This was done to honor a very important Cuban hero, José Martí. He was a key figure in Cuba's fight for independence.
