Martha Brockenbrough is an American writer. She writes both fiction and nonfiction books. Her books are for children, teens, and adults. Her first book, It Could Happen To You: Diary Of A Pregnancy and Beyond, came out in 2002. Martha also started The Society for the Promotion of Good Grammar (SPOGG). She also created National Grammar Day, which is celebrated in the United States every year since 2008.

Martha Brockenbrough was born in Seattle, Washington. She went to Stanford University and graduated in 1992. At Stanford, she studied Classics and English. She was also the editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, called the Stanford Daily.
Her Career and National Grammar Day
Before becoming a full-time author, Martha worked as an editor for MSN.com. She also wrote funny educational articles for Encarta.com. This website closed down in 2009. In 2008, she started National Grammar Day. This day helps people remember how important good grammar is.

Her young adult novel, The Game of Love and Death, was published in 2015. This book was a finalist for the Kirkus Prize in 2015. It was also chosen as one of the Top 10 Romances for Youth by the American Library Association. The book was also a nominee for YALSA's Best Books For Young Adults in 2016. Publishers Weekly listed it as one of their Best Books of 2015. It won the Washington State Book Award in 2016 for Books For Young Adults.
Another book for teens is Devine Intervention. This book was chosen as one of the Kirkus Reviews Top 100 Books for Teens in 2012. It also won a Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association book award in 2016.

In 2016, The Discovery Channel published Martha's book, Shark Week: Everything You Need to Know. This book is recommended for young readers.
In 2022, her picture book called I Am an American: The Wong Kim Ark Story won an important award. It received the Carter G. Woodson Book Award (Elementary Level). This award recognizes books that teach about ethnic diversity.
