Martilou "Marti" Malloy (born June 23, 1986) is a famous American judoka. She was born in Oak Harbor, Washington. Marti is known for her amazing skills in judo, a Japanese martial art and sport. She has won many medals for the United States, including an Olympic bronze medal.

Marti Malloy's Judo Journey

Marti Malloy started making a name for herself in judo when she was just 16 years old. In 2002, she won a gold medal at her first big international competition, the Rendez-Vous Canada. She beat many strong opponents there, including an Olympian!

After finishing high school, Marti moved to San Jose State University. She worked hard to train for the 2012 Olympic Games while also studying Advertising and Marketing. She successfully graduated from the university in 2010.

Early Successes

In 2005, Marti continued to shine in judo. She won a silver medal at the Judo U.S. Open. That same year, she was the only U.S. athlete to win a gold medal at the Junior Pan American Championships. This showed how talented she was from a young age.

In 2007, Marti tried competing in a heavier weight class, 63 kg, at the 2007 World Judo Championships. She finished ninth there. Later that year, she moved back to her usual 57 kg weight class. She then won her first Senior National title in that division.

By 2009, Marti had won her second Senior National title. She also won the World Team Trials, which meant she got to compete on her second Senior World Team.

In 2010, she earned her first major international medal at the 2010 Pan American Judo Championships. She also successfully defended her Senior National title from the year before.

Olympic and World Medals

The year 2012 was a big one for Marti. She won a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She competed in the -57 kg weight class. In her final match for the bronze medal, she won by scoring an Ippon with a move called Kouchi gari.

On her way to the bronze medal, Marti defeated several strong judokas. She beat Telma Monteiro, Yadinis Amaris, and Irina Zabludina. After losing in the semifinal, she won her repechage match against Giulia Quintavalle to secure the bronze.

In 2013, Marti continued her success. She won a silver medal at the World Judo Championships in Rio de Janeiro. She also earned another silver medal at the 2013 Tokyo Grand Slam event.

In 2014, Marti achieved another gold medal at the Pan American Judo Championships held in Miami. She even defeated the 2012 Olympic champion, Kaori Matsumoto, at the 2014 World Judo Championships using an armbar technique.
