Martín Walter López Cardozo (born on May 20, 1978, in Stockholm) is a talented drummer from Sweden and Uruguay. He is a co-founder and current member of the progressive metal band Soen. Many people also know him as the former drummer for the Swedish progressive metal band Opeth and the melodic death metal band Amon Amarth.
Martín was born in Sweden. His parents were from Uruguay. He lived in Uruguay for a while before moving back to Sweden.

Martín López's Music Career
Martín López joined the band Opeth in 1997. Before that, he was part of the Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth. He played drums on Amon Amarth's album Once Sent From the Golden Hall.
Time with Opeth
With Opeth, Martín recorded several important albums. These include My Arms, Your Hearse, Still Life, and Blackwater Park. He also played on Deliverance, Damnation, and Ghost Reveries.
In 2006, Martín had to leave Opeth because of health reasons. He hadn't been actively playing with the band since the summer of 2005, after they finished recording Ghost Reveries. Another drummer, Martin Axenrot, took his place.
Starting Soen
After leaving Opeth, Martín focused on his old band, Fifth to Infinity. Then, in 2010, it was announced that Martín López, along with bassist Steve DiGiorgio, singer Joel Ekelöf, and guitarist Kim Platbarzdis, had formed a new band called Soen. Their first album, Cognitive, came out on February 15, 2012.

Martín López has used different drum brands throughout his career. When he first played with Opeth, he used Premier drums. His Premier kit was from the Signia Marquis series. Later, he switched to Tama drums, using their Starclassic series. He also uses Sabian cymbals to create different sounds.
In 2014, Martín started using Noble & Cooley drums. Then, in 2021, he changed his cymbals to Zildjian, mainly using their K Dark Series. In the same year, he also began using Axis Percussion pedals for his drumming.
