Martín Walter López Cardozo, born on May 20, 1978, in Stockholm, Sweden, is a talented drummer. He is known for being a co-founder and current member of the band Soen. Before that, he was the drummer for two other well-known bands: Opeth and Amon Amarth.
Martín was born in Sweden to parents from Uruguay. He lived in Uruguay for a while before moving back to Sweden.

Martín's Music Journey
Starting with Amon Amarth and Opeth
Martín joined the band Opeth in 1997. Before that, he was part of another Swedish band called Amon Amarth, where he played drums on their album Once Sent from the Golden Hall.
While with Opeth, Martín helped create many albums. These included My Arms, Your Hearse, Still Life, Blackwater Park, Deliverance, Damnation, and Ghost Reveries.
Moving On to Soen
Martín left Opeth on May 12, 2006, due to health reasons. He had not been playing with the band since the summer of 2005. After leaving Opeth, Martín focused on his older band, Fifth to Infinity.
On May 28, 2010, it was announced that Martín López, along with bassist Steve DiGiorgio, singer Joel Ekelöf, and guitarist Kim Platbarzdis, had formed a new band called Soen. Their first album, Cognitive, was released on February 15, 2012.
Martín's Drum Gear
Martín has used different drum brands throughout his career. When he first played with Opeth, he used Premier drums. Later, he switched to Tama drums. His Premier kit was a Signia Marquis series, and his Tama kit was a Starclassic series. He also uses Sabian cymbals.
In 2014, Martín started using Noble & Cooley drums. More recently, in 2021, he switched to Zildjian Cymbals, especially focusing on their K Dark Series. Also in 2021, he began using Axis Percussion pedals for his drumming.
