The Story of Martinelli's
How It All Began
The Martinelli's story began with a man named Stepheno Martinelli. He moved to California from Switzerland in the late 1850s. He joined his brother Luigi on a farm in Watsonville. Stepheno first worked in the soda business. He soon realized he could make money by creating drinks from the apples grown on his brother's farm.
A Family Business Starts
The Martinelli brothers, Stepheno and Luigi, officially started their company in 1868. This was in the Pajaro Valley area of California. Stepheno had experience making champagne when he lived in France. He used his skills to create a special recipe for their apple cider. This recipe was so good that it won a gold medal at the 1890 California State Fair!
Martinelli's Today
As of 2021, Martinelli's is still a family-run business. It's now managed by the fifth generation of the Martinelli family. This means the great-great-grandchildren of the founders are helping to run the company! There's even a street in Watsonville named after the Martinelli family.
