Early Life and First Band
Anna was born in the city of Pavlohrad, Ukraine. As a child, she loved music and dance. Even though she studied a different subject at the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute, she never gave up on music. She even made it to the finals of the singing competition The Voice of Ukraine.
In 2013, Anna started a band called The Pringlez. Her husband, Oleksandr Korsun, was the band's manager. The band played pop-rock music and even represented Ukraine in the New Wave music contest in 2015. Their song "Easy to Love" was also in the running to be Ukraine's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.
Becoming MARUV
In 2017, the band decided to make a big change. They changed their name to MARUV and started making modern electronic music instead of pop-rock. They wanted a fresh, new style.
In May 2017, they released their first album as MARUV, called Stories. The album had seven songs in Ukrainian, Russian, and English.
A New Sound with Boosin
In 2017, Anna met a musician and DJ named Mikhail Busin, also known as BOOSIN. They discovered their voices sounded great together and started a project called Maruv & Boosin.
Their first song together was "Spini". Their next song, "... Groove", became a huge hit, not just in their home country but around the world. Anna wrote the words, and BOOSIN created the music. In 2018, they released the album Black Water, which included "... Groove" and another popular song, "Focus on Me".
The Eurovision Song Contest
In 2019, MARUV won a competition called Vidbir, which chooses who will represent Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest. She was set to perform her song "Siren Song".
However, a problem came up because she had concerts planned in Russia. At the time, there were serious political disagreements between Ukraine and Russia. Some people in Ukraine felt that Ukrainian artists should not perform in Russia.
The national television company of Ukraine, UA:PBC, asked MARUV to sign a contract. The contract said she could not perform in Russia. MARUV felt that some parts of the contract were too strict. She said, "I am a musician, not the baseball bat on the political arena."
In the end, MARUV and the television company could not agree. As a result, Ukraine decided not to participate in the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. Even though she didn't go to Eurovision, her song "Siren Song" became very popular in many countries.
Later Career
After the Eurovision situation, MARUV continued to make music. In 2019, she released an EP called Hellcat Story.
In 2020, she created a new character for her music, called Shlakoblochina, and released an EP called Fatality. She also recorded a Russian version of the song "More" for the popular video game League of Legends.
Personal Life
Anna Korsun is married. In February 2022, she announced that she was expecting her first child.
When the conflict in Ukraine began in February 2022, she posted on social media asking for the fighting to stop. She has said that some of her relatives lost their homes because of the conflict.
After this, she was quiet on social media for a while. In November 2022, she posted that she was in a "safe place." In March 2024, it was reported that she was living in Dubai with her husband and child.
