Mary Elizabeth Duffield, born Rosenberg (1819–1914), was a talented British artist. She was famous for her beautiful paintings of flowers and fruit. Mary was also the wife of another artist, William Duffield, who painted still life pictures.
Her Life as an Artist
Mary Elizabeth Rosenberg was born in Bath, England, in 1819. She was the oldest daughter of Mr. T. E. Rosenberg. From a young age, Mary showed a gift for painting. She became known for her detailed pictures of fruit and flowers.
In 1850, Mary married William Duffield, who was also a painter. She became a member of the Institute of Painters in Water-Colours. This was an important group for artists who used watercolours.
Mary Duffield's art was shown in many places. One important exhibition was at the Palace of Fine Arts. This was part of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois, USA. It was a very big world's fair.
Her painting called Yellow Roses was chosen to be in a special book. This book, published in 1905, was titled Women Painters of the World. It featured famous female artists from around the globe.
