The Mary Harris Memorial Chapel of the Holy Trinity is a special church building. It is on the Streatham Campus of the University of Exeter. This chapel is a place for the Anglican Chaplaincy. It is right in the middle of the campus. You can find it near the Queen's Building and the Old Library.
A chaplain helps lead services here. They get help from a team and the University Chapel Choir.
The Chapel's History
The Mary Harris Memorial Chapel has an interesting past. Dr. E. Vincent Harris designed this beautiful building. He gave it to the University of Exeter. He built it to remember his mother, Mary Harris.
The chapel was officially opened on June 26, 1958. A special church leader, the Bishop of Exeter, led the ceremony. On March 29, 1988, the chapel became a Grade II Listed Building. This means it is an important historical building. The amazing painting on the ceiling was done by Sir Walter Thomas Monnington.
About the Organ
The chapel has a large pipe organ in its gallery. It was built in 1958. Some changes were made to it in the 1970s by Eustace and Alldridge. Later, Percy Daniel & Co also worked on it.
The pipe organ stopped being used in 2010. Since then, an electronic organ has been used for music during services.
