Mary Leunig grew up in a place called Maidstone, which is in Melbourne, Australia. She went to Footscray North State School and later Maribyrnong High School. Mary has two sisters, and her brother, Michael Leunig, is also a very famous cartoonist and poet!
She started studying art at Prahran Institute of Technology and finished her studies at Preston Institute of Technology. There, she focused on drawing and making prints.
