About Mary Wurm's Life
Mary Wurm was born in England. She had three sisters who were also musicians: Alice Verne-Bredt, Mathilde Verne, and Adela Verne. As a child, Mary lived in Stuttgart, Germany. Later, she moved back to London, England.
Her Musical Training
Mary Wurm studied piano with the famous pianist Clara Schumann. She also learned how to compose music from Charles Villiers Stanford. These teachers helped her become a very good musician.
Her Career as a Musician
Mary Wurm became a well-known pianist. In 1898, she started and led a special orchestra in Berlin, Germany. This orchestra was made up entirely of women. Her nephew, John Vallier, also became a musician.
Teaching and Publications
In 1914, Mary Wurm created a collection of music for young children. It was called "Practical Preschool." This collection was used as teaching material at the Elisabeth Caland school in Hannover, Germany.
