About the Festival
The Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival is a big yearly event. It happens during the first weekend of May. The festival is a place where you can learn all about sheep and the wool they produce. It's also a great spot to find cool wool products.
History of the Festival
The festival first started way back in 1973. It has grown a lot since then! In 2003, more than 70,000 people visited the festival. The event in 2014 was its 40th year in a row. The Maryland Sheep Breeders Association helps to organize and sponsor this popular festival.
What Happens at the Festival?
At the festival, you can see many different kinds of sheep. There are usually more than 30 different sheep breeds judged there. You can also find many vendors selling wool yarn and other wool items. These are perfect for people who enjoy knitting or weaving.
Besides sheep, you might also see other animals that produce fiber. These include goats, angora rabbits, llamas, and alpaca. Their fibers are also used to make soft yarns and fabrics.
In 2020, the festival was held online because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This meant people could still enjoy the event from their homes.
