Park History
Marymoor Park has a rich history! The land was once part of a large farm called Willowmoor. This farm, along with the beautiful Clise Mansion, was built in the early 1900s by a banker named James Clise. The amazing gardens around the mansion were designed by famous landscape architects, the Olmsted Brothers. Today, the mansion is a very important historical building and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
How Marymoor Got Its Name
From 1930 to 1964, a large dairy farm operated at Willowmoor. It was run by Walter Nettleton and the Dodd brothers. The brothers decided to rename the farm "Marymoor." They did this to honor Walter Nettleton's young daughter, Mary Nettleton, who sadly passed away in a bicycle accident. This is how the park got its special name!
Fun Things to Do
Marymoor Park is a hub for exciting activities and events, especially during the summer!
Concerts and Movies
Every summer, the park hosts a popular concert series called "Concerts at Marymoor." Big music artists come to perform, making it a great place to enjoy live music outdoors. The park also shows outdoor movies during the summer, which is a perfect way to spend a warm evening with friends and family.
Community Garden
At the western side of the park, there's a special area used by the Marymoor Community Gardener's Association. This is one of the oldest public gardens in the entire country! Here, people can grow their own plants and vegetables.
Dog Park Fun
One of the most popular spots in Marymoor Park is its huge 40-acre off-leash dog area. This means dogs can run and play freely without a leash! There are big fields for them to chase balls and even five beaches where dogs can swim in the Sammamish Slough. It's a fantastic place for dogs and their owners to have fun together.
