Masafumi Akikawa (秋川 雅史, Akikawa Masafumi) is a talented Japanese tenor singer. He has released many CDs with his music. His songs cover a wide range of styles, from classical music to popular pop tunes. He even performed on a very famous Japanese TV show called the 57th NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen.
About His Music
Masafumi Akikawa released a special song called Sen no Kaze ni Natte (千の風になって) (which means "A Thousand Winds"). This song came out on May 24, 2006. After he sang it on the TV show Uta Gassen, it became super popular. On January 22, 2007, it reached the number one spot on the Oricon Singles Weekly Ranking. This ranking shows the most popular songs in Japan each week.
The song "Sen no Kaze ni Natte" is based on a beautiful poem. The poem is called Do not stand at my grave and weep. It talks about remembering loved ones who have passed away. Masafumi Akikawa's song sold more than 1,000,000 copies in Japan! A Korean version of the song was also used to remember people who passed away in a sad event in 2014. It became a song of comfort and remembrance.
