Masakatsu Sawa's Football Journey

Masakatsu Sawa made history on September 13, 2006. He became the first Japanese player to score a goal in the Copa Sudamericana. He scored this goal for his team, Coronel Bolognesi, against a Chilean club called Colo-Colo.

After playing very well for Coronel Bolognesi and Deportivo Municipal, Masakatsu Sawa was asked to play for the Peruvian national team. However, he chose not to join. He wanted to keep his Japanese citizenship.

In July 2008, he moved back to Japan. He joined the Japanese club Kashiwa Reysol. This club was close to his hometown, Moriya. He played for Kashiwa Reysol for several years.

In 2018, Sawa was still a player for Kashiwa Reysol. But he could not play any games that season. This was because of injuries. On January 11, 2019, the club announced that he had left the team.
