Masakatsu Sawa (澤 昌克, Sawa Masakatsu, born January 12, 1983) is a former football player from Japan. He also became a citizen of Peru. He plays as an attacking midfielder. He currently plays for Deportivo Municipal.
Masakatsu Sawa's Football Journey
Masakatsu Sawa made history on September 13, 2006. He became the first Japanese player to score a goal in the Copa Sudamericana. He scored this goal for his team, Coronel Bolognesi, against a Chilean club called Colo-Colo.
After playing very well for Coronel Bolognesi and Deportivo Municipal, Masakatsu Sawa was asked to play for the Peruvian national team. However, he chose not to join. He wanted to keep his Japanese citizenship.
In July 2008, he moved back to Japan. He joined the Japanese club Kashiwa Reysol. This club was close to his hometown, Moriya. He played for Kashiwa Reysol for several years.
In 2018, Sawa was still a player for Kashiwa Reysol. But he could not play any games that season. This was because of injuries. On January 11, 2019, the club announced that he had left the team.
Masakatsu Sawa has played in many matches throughout his career. He has scored over 50 goals in league games. He also won several important titles with Kashiwa Reysol. These include the J1 League in 2011, the J.League Cup in 2013, and the Emperor's Cup in 2012.
