Masakatsu Sawa (born January 12, 1983) is a former Japanese-Peruvian football player. He was known for playing as an attacking midfielder. Sawa played for several clubs during his career, including Deportivo Municipal and Kashiwa Reysol.

Masakatsu Sawa's Football Journey
Early Career in Peru
Masakatsu Sawa started his professional football career in Peru. In 2005, he played for Sporting Cristal. The next year, in 2006, he joined Coronel Bolognesi.
Making History in South America
While playing for Coronel Bolognesi, Sawa made history. On September 13, 2006, he scored a goal in the Copa Sudamericana. This made him the first Japanese player to score in this important South American football tournament. His team played against a Chilean club called Colo-Colo.
Turning Down a National Team Offer
After showing great skill with Coronel Bolognesi and Deportivo Municipal, Sawa received an exciting offer. The Peruvian national team asked him to play for them. However, Sawa decided not to accept the offer. He wanted to keep his Japanese nationality, which was very important to him.
Return to Japan
In July 2008, Sawa moved back to Japan. He joined Kashiwa Reysol, a football club located close to his hometown of Moriya. He played for Kashiwa Reysol for several years, from 2008 to 2013.
Challenges and Departure from Kashiwa Reysol
Sawa was still a player for Kashiwa Reysol in the 2018 season. However, he did not play any games that year because of injuries. On January 11, 2019, the club announced that Sawa had left the team. This was a mutual decision between him and the club.
Later Career and Retirement
After leaving Kashiwa Reysol, Sawa continued to play football. In 2019, he played for Unión Huaral. He then returned to Deportivo Municipal in 2020. Masakatsu Sawa has since retired from professional football.
