Masanaga Kageyama, born on May 23, 1967, is a well-known Japanese football figure. He used to be a professional football player. After his playing career, he became a successful football manager. Kageyama is famous for his time as a defender and for coaching different teams, including national youth teams.
Playing Football
Kageyama was born in Iwaki, Japan. He started his football journey in school and college. After finishing university, he joined a team called Furukawa Electric in 1990. This team later became known as JEF United Ichihara.
He quickly became a key player for them. Kageyama played as a center back, which is a defensive position. He stayed with JEF United Ichihara until 1994. In 1995, he moved to another team, Urawa Reds. However, he didn't play any matches there. The next year, in 1996, he joined Brummell Sendai. He played 19 matches for them before he stopped playing professional football at the end of 1996.
Coaching Teams
After he stopped playing, Kageyama started a new career in coaching. First, he worked with the Japan national football team as a technical staff member. This means he helped with training and strategy.
In 2001, he became a coach for Sanfrecce Hiroshima. Later, in 2006, he moved to Macau. There, he became the manager for the Macau national football team. A manager is like the head coach of a team.
In 2008, Kageyama went to Singapore. He managed the Singapore Under-16 national team. He led them in a big tournament called the AFC U-16 Championship.
He returned to Japan in 2009. He joined Fagiano Okayama, a team in the J2 League. He started as a coach and then became the manager in 2010. He managed Fagiano Okayama until 2014.
From 2017 to 2021, Kageyama managed the Japan Under-20 national team. Under his guidance, the team did very well. They finished third in the 2018 AFC U-19 Championship. This success helped them qualify for the 2019 U-20 World Cup, which is a huge achievement for young players.
