Masao Ito (born December 4, 1928 – died December 18, 2018) was a famous Japanese scientist. He was a neuroscientist, which means he studied the brain and nervous system. He also led the Riken Brain Science Institute, a major research center in Japan.

His Life and Education
Masao Ito was born in Nagoya, Japan. He studied at the University of Tokyo. He earned his M.D. degree in 1953. Later, he completed his Ph.D. in 1959.
After finishing his studies, he worked as a research fellow. This was at the Australian National University from 1959 to 1962. He then returned to Japan. From 1963, he taught at the University of Tokyo. He shared his knowledge with many students there.
Masao Ito passed away on December 18, 2018, at the age of 90.
