Matías Juan de Veana was a talented Spanish composer from the 1600s. He was born around 1656 in a town called Xàtiva in Spain. He was known for his beautiful music, especially his villancicos, which were a popular type of song at the time.
Matías Juan de Veana worked as a chapelmaster in Madrid. A chapelmaster was a very important job, like being the main music director for a church or a royal chapel. They were in charge of all the music, including composing new pieces, leading the choir, and teaching musicians.
He held this important role at two famous places in Madrid: the Real Monasterio de la Encarnación (Royal Monastery of the Incarnation) and the Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales (Monastery of the Royal Barefoot Nuns). These were significant religious institutions, showing how respected his musical skills were. He continued to compose and work as a chapelmaster until after 1708.
