Matam Region facts for kids
Matam is a region located in the northeast part of Senegal, a country in West Africa. The main city and capital of this region is also called Matam.
In 2013, about 541,032 people lived in the Matam Region. It covers a large area of about 29,445 square kilometers (11,369 square miles). This makes it one of the bigger regions in Senegal.
What Are the Main Areas in Matam?
The Matam Region is divided into three main administrative areas. These are called "départements" and are similar to counties or districts in other countries. Each département helps manage local services and communities.
The three départements are:
- Kanel Département
- Matam Département
- Ranérou Ferlo Département
