Matilpi facts for kids
Matilpi is a small place located on the Central Coast of British Columbia, Canada. It's found northeast of Hull Island, on the east side of a water passage called Havannah Channel.
Etsekin Indian Reserve No. 1
Matilpi is part of a special area known as Etsekin Indian Reserve No. 1, also called Etsekin 1. This reserve includes Matilpi and some small islands nearby. It covers an area of 13.2 hectares (about 32.6 acres). You can find it at 50°33′30″N 126°11′12″W / 50.55833°N 126.18667°W.
First Nations Heritage
This land was originally set aside for the Mahteelthpe or Matilpi Tribe. These groups are part of the Ma'amtagila First Nation. Over time, the Mahteelthpe tribe joined with the Tlowitsis Tribe. They formed a new group called the Tlowitsis-Mumtagila First Nation. Today, the land is managed by the Tlowitsis Nation, which is a self-governing Indigenous group.
