Matteo Corradini facts for kids
Matteo Corradini (born April 15, 1975, Borgonovo Val Tidone) is an Italian writer and hebraist. He writes many books for children and adults. He also helps people learn about the history of the Shoah (a terrible time in history when many Jewish people were persecuted).
Matteo Corradini is also a hebraist, which means he studies the Hebrew language and Jewish culture. Since 2002, he has been researching the Terezin concentration camp, a special camp used during World War II. He visits this historical place often to learn more.
He helps organize a book festival called Scrittorincittà in Cuneo, Italy. He also writes for Italian newspapers like Avvenire and Popotus. Matteo has taught at universities and has directed plays and organized musical events.
Discovering History Through Music
Matteo Corradini's research into the Terezin ghetto helped him find old musical instruments and other items from that time. These items are now used by two music groups he started: the Pavel Zalud Quartet (in 2013) and the Pavel Zalud Orchestra (in 2015). Both groups play music that was created in Terezin during the war.
In 2015, Matteo wrote a speech that the famous actor Sir Ben Kingsley read. This was on January 27, 2015, at a ceremony in Terezin. The ceremony marked International Holocaust Memorial Day and 70 years since the liberation of Auschwitz, another important historical site.
Working with Other Writers
In recent years, Matteo Corradini has worked on events and shows with well-known authors like Abraham Yehoshua, Uri Orlev, Inge Auerbacher, Melvin Burgess, and Assaf Gavron.
Since 2017, Matteo has been the Italian editor for Anne Frank's famous book, "Diary of a young girl" (published in Italy by Rizzoli). On October 26, 2017, he read parts of Anne Frank's Diary before a soccer match between Juventus FC and Spal. This was done with the Italian Soccer Federation to fight against racism and anti-semitism.
In 2018, he helped publish the Italian version of Inge Auerbacher's book of memories, called "I am a star." In the same year, Matteo won the "Premio Andersen" award in Italy for his work on remembering the Shoah. Also in 2018, his novel "Im Ghetto gibt es keine Schmetterlinge" was chosen as one of the best novels published in Germany that year by the Jugend-Literatur-Jury.
