Matthew Ahmat's Football Journey
Matthew comes from a family of footballers! His father and grandfather also played for the Darwin Football Club in the Northern Territory Football League. This shows that the Ahmat name has a long history in football in the Northern Territory.
Starting with the Brisbane Bears
Matthew began his AFL career with the Brisbane Bears. He worked hard to find his place in the team. The team was coached by Robert Walls at the time.
A New Chance with Sydney Swans
In 1993, Matthew played for the Norwood Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). This league is another important football competition in Australia.
After playing in the SANFL, Matthew got a new opportunity. The Sydney Swans picked him in the 1993 Mid-Season draft. This meant he was the very first player chosen in that draft.
Matthew played in two of the first three games for the Sydney Swans in their 1994 season. However, he did not play any more games in the AFL after that.
