Matthew Wolfenden (born 23 July 1987) is an English footballer. He plays as a striker for the North West Counties League Premier Division team Avro. Matthew started his football journey at Oldham Athletic, which was his hometown club. Later, he moved to Wales to play for Wrexham in 2009. He then spent seven years playing for FC United of Manchester before leaving in July 2017.

Early Life and School

When Matthew was a child, he went to school in his hometown. He attended the Blue Coat School in Oldham.

Matthew's Football Journey

Starting at Oldham Athletic

Matthew Wolfenden was born in Oldham, Greater Manchester. He grew up playing football in the Oldham Athletic youth system. He had been with the club since he was only nine years old!

Matthew played his first game for the main team on 15 November 2003. He came on as a substitute during a match against Swindon Town. At that time, he was just 16 years and 115 days old. This made him the second youngest player ever to play for Oldham Athletic.

Nearly four years later, on 19 May 2007, he scored his first goal for the club. This happened during a play-off game against Blackpool. Matthew left Oldham Athletic on 20 July 2009.

Moving to Wrexham

After leaving Oldham, Matthew signed with Football Conference team Wrexham. He had played well in some friendly matches before joining.

He played his first game for Wrexham on 8 August 2009. It was a 3–0 win against Eastbourne Borough. Matthew played in 15 league games for Wrexham. He then left the club at the end of that season.

Time at FC United of Manchester

On 31 October 2010, Matthew Wolfenden joined Northern Premier League Premier Division team F.C. United of Manchester. He had been released from Wrexham earlier that year.

He played his first game for FC United in an FA Trophy match. It was a 2–1 win against Colwyn Bay.

Matthew was a very important player for FC United. He was the top goal scorer for the club in both the 2011–12 and 2012–13 seasons. After playing for the club for seven years, he left in July 2017.

Playing for Stalybridge Celtic

In July 2017, Matthew joined another team, Stalybridge Celtic.

Joining Radcliffe FC

Two years later, in July 2019, Matthew Wolfenden signed with Radcliffe FC.

Current Club: Avro
