Amy Maud Tindal Atkinson (born November 26, 1875 – died May 20, 1954) was a talented English artist. She lived and worked in the 20th century. Maud was known for showing her beautiful paintings at the famous Royal Academy in London. She didn't have any children, and it's not known if she was ever married.

About Maud's Life

Maud Atkinson was born in a place called Shortlands. This town is near Bromley in Kent, England. Her father, Henry Tindal Atkinson, was a judge. Her mother's name was Marion Lewin. Maud had three sisters: Ethel, Enid, and Doris. She also had one brother, Edward. He later became a very important lawyer.

Maud loved art and studied at Kings College for Women. She learned from a famous artist named Byam Shaw. From 1906 to 1937, Maud showed fifteen of her paintings at the Royal Academy. This was a big achievement for an artist.

Her Teacher's Portrait

In 1906, Maud's teacher, Byam Shaw, painted a full-size picture of her. It was a watercolor painting called "Maud, Daughter of His Honour Judge Tindal Atkinson." This painting showed how beautiful she was. Byam Shaw thought Maud was a wonderful person to paint. She understood his ideas and helped him. She was a valued friend and an ideal model for his art.

Famous Paintings and Books

In 1915, Maud painted a picture called 'Ariel'. This character is from Shakespeare's play The Tempest. This painting has been used on the covers of several books. These include "The Fairyland Companion" and "The Fairy Garden."

Maud was also a member of The Royal Society of Miniaturists in London. She drew pictures for many children's books. Some of these books are:
