Maude Boltz was born in 1939 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. She loved art and studied it at two famous schools. These were the Philadelphia College of Arts and Yale University.
Starting A.I.R. Gallery
In 1972, Maude Boltz did something very important. She helped create the A.I.R. Gallery in New York City. This gallery was special because it was a cooperative for women artists. A cooperative means artists worked together to run the gallery. It gave women artists a place to show their amazing work.
Art Shows and Collections
Maude Boltz's art was shown in important places. In 1978, her work was part of a show at MoMA PS1. This show was called Overview: An Exhibition in Two Parts by the A.I.R. Gallery. It helped more people see her art.
Her picture is also in a very famous poster from 1972. It is called Some Living American Women Artists. This poster was made by Mary Beth Edelson. It celebrates many important women artists.
